This 2×2 aluminum gate side post – the L-Side Post in our system – is sold boxed on its own for DIY gates. Order it when you already have a hinge post in place, when you are replacing a damaged side post, or when you want to buy the two sides of a wall-to-wall gate separately. It is 2x2in x 6ft, made of 6063-T6 aluminum with AAMA 2604 super-durable powder coating in black.
Our DIY pedestrian gate kits list five post options. The first is the Hinge Post + L-Side Post pair for wall-to-wall installation, and this is the L-Side half of that pair. Because the box includes its own cap, baseplate, fixings and striker hardware, you do not need to source extra parts to install it. The aluminum will not rot or rust, and the black powder coating matches our black gate frames.

(Box) 2x2in x 6ft L-Side Post is made from aluminum 6063-t6, finished with AAMA 2604 super-durable powder coating – Black.
6063-T6 is an architectural aluminum alloy made for extruded profiles. It gives clean, consistent shapes and takes a powder coating evenly, which is why it is widely used for fences, gates and other exterior building products.
AAMA 2604 is the American Architectural Manufacturers Association specification for high-performance organic coatings, powder coatings included, on aluminum extrusions. It sets test requirements for outdoor color and gloss retention, chalking and corrosion resistance.

Complete the system
The boxed DIY pedestrian gate kits and the parts sold for them: 2×2 in. hinge posts and L-side posts for wall installation, and the gate slat boxes in ALU 40 and ALU 60 T&G.
Measure the opening between the two walls (these posts are for wall installation).
Choose the kit size (4×6 or 6×6 ft) and the slat style (ALU 40 with a gap, or ALU 60 T&G with no gap).
Choose the color offered for the kit.
Add hinge post / L-side post sets and slat boxes only if you are building or replacing parts.
